AIAI Spring Kickoff

We are excited to welcome Dr. Abeba Birhane to Georgia Tech on January 23rd, 2025 from noon to 1:30 pm as a kick off for this Spring edition of our AIAI speaker series. Dr. Birhane will speak on “Generative AI: sparks of AGI or glorified copy-paste machines.”

Dr. Birhane, founder of the TCD AI Accountability Lab, TIME100 AI honoree and member of the UN Secretary-General’s AI Advisory Body, cuts through the hype to examine how today’s AI systems measure up against their inflated promises and potential. Her talk will explore the gap between peak AI enthusiasm and the reality of deployed systems, offering concrete recommendations for building more reliable and equitable AI systems and mechanisms for accountability.

The talk is co-sponsored by Georgia Tech’s Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) and Emory’s Hightower Fund. Lunch will be served. More information here.
